Are Sensory Deprivation Tanks Sanitary?

“Is it clean??”

We get this question all the time, and it’s an easy answer: absolutely yes! Cleaner than any other public body of water you’ve ever been in for sure.

Sensory deprivation float tanks go through a rigorous cleaning process between each and every float session. At Victory Float Lounge, we first did our due diligence in researching which tank manufacturers provided the best sanitation systems, and are very happy with our choice in using Superior Float Tanks for all FIVE of our tanks in both locations.

Here’s some of the nitty gritty, at each level of filtration:

First - the salt itself! Each tank contains 1500lbs of epsom salt, and the high salinity environment is far too harsh for bacteria and viruses to survive. This is all the more important now as we enter the colder winter months!

Second - after each float, the tank automatically enters a cleaning cycle. This pumps all the water through a 1 micron filter 3 times in 15 minutes. For scale, a human hair is 50 microns. Pretty much nothing is getting missed by this tank of a filter.

Third - during the automatic filtration process, the tank’s filtration system pumps a pre-set amount of hydrogen peroxide (that we measure to be sure it’s within range) and uses an ozone treatment to destroy any potential bacteria, viruses, or pathogens.

Fourth - these tanks ALSO use a germicidal UV light (UV-C) to destroy any other little thing that might be resistant to the other processes. These really are thorough.

Fifth - our staff then goes into each room to wipe down and sanitize all surfaces, especially those high-touch surfaces, and leave the rooms looking clean and new for each subsequent guest.

And lastly - the deep clean. Yes, we get in there and scrub the whole tank down weekly or more frequently in our busiest season. This can be a somewhat grueling task, best assisted with loud music! If you ever walk by and see a note that says something like “Closed for Deep Clean,” keep us in your thoughts.

At Victory Float Lounge, we are really proud of the level of cleanliness that we provide for our customers, and we are so glad to see that reflected in the feedback we’ve received from previous clients.
